A 60years old female patient Susheela devi visited Sreeragam Ayurveda health resort with a problem of oozing deep wound with severe burning pain and itching located at the medial side of the left ankle joint. Doctors at Sreeragam Ayurveda health resort consulted her and found out the following about her current condition and lifestyle:

  • She does not take alcohol
  • She does not have a history of smoking
  • No history of diabetes
  • Her sugar level is normal with no complaint of diabetes

On examining we found out that there was an oozing, 3cm diameter deep wound with blackish discoloration. The wound was worsening gradually over the last 1 1/2 months, continues oozing and burning increased while prolonged standing.
Patient was diagnosed with Dushtavranam and her prakruthi was Vatha-Pitha dosha predominant
On the basis of the current condition and examining the wound, following treatment protocol was decided

  • Vatha pitha samana
  • Vedana samana
  • Varna prasadanm
  • Vrana sodana and roopana

Was Susheela Able To Find The Cure for non-healing ulcer?


The duration of the treatment was decided for 31 days from the day of admission, following results were observed after the completion of the treatment

 

  • Burning and pain was reduced
  • Discoloration and oozing were reduced significantly
  • Patient was able to walk for almost 20min without any pain or burning

Below shown is the improvement in the condition of the wound for reference.  

Once Dr.Krishnakumar felt that the patient is stable and capable enough to go back to the routine life, they discharged her so that she can make adjustment in her lifestyle as the treatment would continue for the next 2-3 months at least. Patient was given medicine at the time of discharge, which can be continued from home and the patient could improve their metabolism for further recovery of the wound. Local medicine for faster recovery was also included whereas emergency medicine for excessive pain or burning was also suggested to avoid any complications. Medicines like Manjishtadhi kashyachurnam, patolagana kashayam, T.Chandraprabha vati etc. were prescribed and packed at the time of discharge along with Jathyadi ghitham for external application on the wound.
